How does this work? Do we need to be humble? Should we be humble? Or should others be humble toward us? How on earth should all this be interpreted?
What does humility mean from a self-knowledge perspective? Can we learn humility? And what exactly are we humble before, or rather toward what are we humble?
Based on my experience so far, practicing humility itself toward saints, elders, fellow humans, or strangers is always a good practice. Or if we find ourselves in a situation where we can practice the dismantling of the ego, humility can also arrive as help there. If we are in a situation where we are being helped, where we depend on others, the practice of humility also appears there. After all, then we depend on other people; others do us a so-called favor.
But there is also the situation where, in a debate or dialogue, it turns out that the other party was right and we were mistaken. Here, overcoming pride, giving up our principles, and accepting the other party's rightness also teach humility. All, all, all—wherever our own sense of comfort or security is shaken, or another person comes to the fore—there we have the opportunity to grow. For the practice of self-control itself is a spiritual lesson. A spiritual lesson where we train our own ego so that it can endure more, or not explode immediately, or not act superior over others. Or even be able to accept that it was wrong.
Life is colorful, and fortunately we can see and perceive this. But after perception, what is the exact step we actually take in order to grow?
